POOLA/VOLUNTEERS ASSOCIATION has been involved in the assistance to the poor people, since its constitution in the year 1994.
The Association is dedicated to a Somali lady who spent her life in the protection of the people in need, especially children and women. She was named `Poola' - which means 'pure':

In the first article we saw how the Geledi people settled on the banks of the river Shabeelle, in the town that is now known as Afgooye, where they liberated themselves from the rule of the Silcis and became allies of the Wacdaan clan who had settled on the opposite bank of the river. The Geledi clan have lived for about 400 years in the town of Afgooye on the Shabeelle river. They are part of the Digil-Mirifle people, and also have strong ties with the nearby Benadiri communities of Mogadishu and Marka. For a long time they have been closely allied with the Haawiye Wacdaan clan, who also live in Afgooye. Before the colonial period, the Geledi were a small city-state whose prosperity rested on farming and trade, since the land by the river is very fertile, and their settlement was located at the point where the important caravan route from the interior to the port city of Mogadishu crossed the Shabeelle river, making it a major market. read more...

The route to Dadaab , Dolow and Mogadicio, which lies about 1000 miles most of the refuges travelled 50 days by foot to reach their destination is especially perilous, winding through one of the most unforgiving environments in the world. The women have been marauded, raped and killed by the various armed groups that haunt the land. Most arrive here penniless and demoralized. Many parents said they buried children along the way.
